Essential Oils for a Healthy Weight

There are a lot of people, men and women alike, who seem to always be looking for healthy ways to lose weight. Essential oils can really help with weight management. They’re are a wonderful way to not only shed a few pounds but also to support very important body systems during periods of focused weight loss.

My story is simple: after having our children, my body needed a time of focused fitness and cleansing to continue to enjoy a healthy life.  Maybe you are in a similar situation or maybe you are on a different journey. Either way, we can take a look at essential oils and find out together what makes them such a great choice for natural weight management.

We will cover two groups of essential oils that are great for supporting a healthy body weight.

Citrus Essential Oils

In this group are grapefruit, lemon, and bergamot.Citrus Fruit for essential oils

Grapefruit essential oil has naturally occurring enzymes (enzymes = catalysts of power) which actually help to jump start the cells in your body so that they burn more energy.  The aromatherapy benefit is uplifting, aids with focus and reduces stress which also helps support the body in maintaining a healthy weight.  I enjoy wearing an essential oil pendant necklace with 1 drop of grapefruit essential oil. This oil gives a bright, fresh aroma and is very cheerful!

Lemons are one of nature’s most potent detoxifiers. Detoxing is when the body rid itself of toxins. You can help your body to do this by drinking plenty of water when applying lemon essential oil or taking it internally (a drop in a glass of water).

Bergamot essential oil is calming, helping to rid oneself of stress. Stress is a known cause of weight gain. Using essential oils which promote calm and relaxation can reduce the amount of the hormone cortisol which creates a pattern of weight gain in the body. The aromatherapy benefit of bergamot essential oil is that it is emotionally uplifting and promotes mental focus. This is another great oil to wear in an essential oil pendant necklace. I really enjoy how long the aroma lasts as well as having a nice necklace to accessorize with!

Herbal Essential Oils

Lavender, peppermint, and rosemary are all herbal oils.

Lavender is such a versatile oil. One of the areas that this herbal essential oil supports is to ease stress. It also brings calm to the nervous system and can support the lymphatic system.  Just one drop of lavender essential oil on my pendant necklace is a rejuvenating, refocusing and relaxing all at the same time!

Peppermint essential oil is wonderful for a few different applications. It can promote healthy digestion and has anti- inflammatory properties. Inflammation can cause numerous health issues (including weight gain). Peppermint’s aromatherapy benefits are uplifting and anti-anxiety. Apply to the back of the neck or on aromatherapy jewelry to enjoy aromatically. Apply to the abdomen or take 1 drop in a glass of water to aid in digestion.

Rosemary essential oil is a powerful de-stresser. The stress hormone Cortisol is diminished as your body responds to the aromatherapy benefits of rosemary. Enjoy the stress relieving (and thus slimming) elements of rosemary.

I love to wear this combination of oils in my diffuser necklace too.  I found that it works well to put 1 drop each of peppermint, lavender, and rosemary or 1 drop each of grapefruit, lemon and bergamot on my necklace for a wonderful pick-me-up and to help me de-stress. It also helps me with feelings of energy throughout the day.
