It’s that time of year again when school is soon-to-be (if not already) back in session and the germs begin to abound! One of the biggest changes our family noticed after we started using essential oils is we were didn’t feel unwell as often or as severely as we used to.
My husband is a cancer survivor. As a child he fought and beat cancer; but as a result of aggressive chemotherapy and radiation, his immune system was never as strong as the rest of our family’s. Anytime crud would come into our home, he would always catch it and have it more severely than the rest of our family members. It would last longer for him than any other member of our family.
This began to change when we started using essential oils. I remember last year dropping my daughter off at preschool and her teacher shared there were over 7 students out due to feeling under the weather… for the whole week! Since our family started using essential oils three years ago, we’ve been able to avoid most of the crud that comes with kids being in school. In addition, when the common yuck is able to somehow make way into our home, it doesn’t hang out for long!
Essential oils for Immune Support
When you have a strong immune system, the chances of illness are decreased. Your body is better equipped to defend itself when your immune system is strong. Having certain chronic issues can make you more susceptible to illness.
What oils should you use? Just about all essential oils will help the immune system. While some are more supportive of the immune system than others, due to the nature of essential oils, just about all essential oils can help.
One way to benefit from your essential oils is by diffusing them. Diffusion of oils can support the immune system and can also help purify the air in your home/bedroom/etc.
We have small diffusers in each bedroom of our home and two larger diffusers for the larger living areas in our home. We diffuse essential oils on a daily basis. (Scroll to the bottom for links to some great diffuser deals on Amazon).
When you breathe in the air while essential oils are being diffused, the molecules from the oils go directly into the lungs. From the lungs, the oils (in molecular form) are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream as they cross the airway/capillary system.
The molecules of essential oils are transported throughout the body and into the cells. Since it only takes a few minutes for blood to circulate throughout the whole body, the essential oils inhaled will be in your entire body within a few minutes.
Diffusing in the classroom
Back to school is a wonderful time, however, the pressures of getting the work done and learning can create some stress and anxiety. Not to mention the fact that schools are magnets for germs and odors.
Many teachers and schools throughout the country are incorporating essential oils in their classrooms and hallways. This supports a calm learning and teaching environment and helps to maintain health. Peppermint and Orange are favorites for both immune support and focus support.
There are several oils that help to support brain function in a healthy way and promote mental clarity and focus. Oils like bergamot, frankincense, patchouli, and ylang-ylang have all been known to help support focus.
