5 Ways Seniors Benefit from Aromatherapy

5 Ways Seniors Benefit from Aromatherapy

For centuries humans have used the relaxing smell of flowers and other natural herbs to calm and stabilize the body and mind. Aromatherapy is the use of flowers and their oils to heal the body and restore a natural sense of health.

Senior citizens can benefit from the calming and Here are 5 things it can do for you!

  1. Help maintain healthy blood pressure and reduce stress

Many essential oils and fragrances have been shown to reduce stress and maintain healthy blood pressure. For senior citizens, this can help reduce the risk of accident or reduced blood flow to the cardiovascular system, as well as help you live a happier and better life.

They are also great for anxious feelings and are regularly used by therapists and psychologists for their calming properties.

Of course, aromatherapy is no replacement for regular medical care and mental care, but it can help you feel better.

2. Manage pain

Aromatherapy can also help reduce the amount of long term pain you carry by relaxing your muscles and improving your circulation. Studies have shown that aromatherapy can be particularly useful in treating joint pain.

Seniors are no strangers to long term pain, and regular aromatherapy could give them some much-needed relief.

3. Sleep better

As my grandma constantly reminds me, late night aches and pains can make it difficult for seniors to sleep. Essential oils have been shown to aid in not only muscle relaxation but also in sleep.  This is the foundation for the rest of your health. Making sure you’re getting the proper amount of sleep will ensure that you have a strong base for the rest of your health.

Set some out before you sleep, even spray some on your pillow and you’ll be counting sheep in no time.

4. Breathe easier

Part of the relaxing effects of essential oils is their ability to help you breathe more easily. Stress and tension cause the muscles in your neck and throat to close, restricting your airways. Aromatherapy can help open these up, making it easier for you to breathe that sigh of relief.

If you’re a senior citizen, this could give you some much-needed relief, and it’ll help you gripe and groan at your relatives if you feel so inclined.

5. Wake up on the right side of the bed

All seniors know that keeping your energy up can be a real struggle. With grandchildren and bridge tournaments filling up your days, sometimes you need a little extra boost. Instead of experimenting with energy drinks and supplements, you could try the natural benefits of aromatherapy.

Essential oils can energize the body and mind, helping you wake up faster and stay awake longer in a completely natural way.
